Why put this data on the web?
Sales information is public record and is currently available to those
who come to our office. Open record laws are intended to protect
citizens from abuse of power. How we assess property taxes is complicated
but it is not hidden.
Because our records are open, this office must respond to hundreds of
phone calls each week. Many calls are from professionals who rely on our
services: Title Companies, Realtors, Appraisers, Property Managers, etc. As
we have reduced the number of employees in the office it has become more
difficult to maintain the level of service that taxpayers expect.
The purpose for creating these web pages is to take advantage of
technology to provide a required service in a more efficient manner.
By making basic data about property sales available on the internet
we expect to reduce the number of repeat visits and calls made by
professionals. This will free our staff to better serve those property
owners with individual requests.
